We are delighted to announce, and invite you to, a talk at our school with Dr. Gabor Maté. On Tuesday January 22nd, from 6:30 - 8:00, he will be speaking with us about "Conscious Parenting". Dr. Maté is a physician, author and public speaker, and most of you know of him through his books and newspaper articles in the Vancouver Sun and the Globe and Mail. A family practice physician for many years, he currently practices as the staff physician at the Portland Hotel in the Downtown Eastside and at St. Paul's Hospital. He is the author of four books, including "When the Body Says No: The Cost of Hidden Stress", "Scattered Minds: A New Look at the Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder", and "Hold On To Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers", co-authored with developmental psychologist, Dr. Gordon Neufeld. His fourth book, "In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters With Addiction" is being released next month. You can find out more about Dr. Maté at www.drgabormate.com. It promises to be a very stimulating evening and we hope you can join us. We ask that you RSVP to this email address as soon as possible. (Click this link or your Reply button.) Yes, friends are welcome to come with you. We are not promoting this event to the larger community, but those somehow connected with the Pacific Spirit School community are welcome.
Dr. Maté is on the PSS Advisory Council, and his views about supporting the growth of children are closely aligned with those of our school.
Happy New Year
We enter into the New Year with appreciation for the efforts of the many people who have made PSS a reality. Although we have benefitted tremendously from Life Song's legacy, in many ways we are a new school, and getting a new school off the ground has taken a lot of vision and support. We now have our first term under our belts, and while not without minor glitches, it's been great. Our plans for further development in 2008 have been charted, and we'll keep you posted on our progress.
Good-bye Judy
Our wonderfully warm and enthusiastic resource educator, Judy Lea, has taken a full-time position teaching music in a French immersion school. We are delighted for Judy, and for the many students who will benefit from her skills, and are sad to say good-bye.
September 2008 Enrollment
Yes, it's hard to believe that we still have spaces available for the next school year, but we do. We believe that we would be full several times over if everybody knew about Pacific Spirit School, but most people hear about the school through word-of-mouth. So... she told two friends, and they told two friends... If you know families that would be a good philosophical fit with the school, please let them know about us, perhaps by passing on this newsletter.

Meet the Teacher!
Catherine is our newest educator, having joined us in September. We are truly delighted to have her with us, as are the children, one of whom was reported to have asked, "Are you a real teacher?". Catherine becomes our full-time educator for the elder children this term. For more about Catherine, click on the link.
